A Message from the President

The FJMC Seaboard Region exists to serve the twenty-four Men’s Clubs and Brotherhoods in the region, which range from Delaware to Baltimore, through the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, and down to Richmond and the Tidewater area of Virginia. Over 2,600 men belong to these clubs, “Involving Jewish Men in Jewish Life”. Our region is one of the most active and vibrant regions in FJMC International. As you read the rest of this letter, you will see why I am so excited and proud of the work the members and leaders of our clubs have performed.

Over 100 Men’s Clubs from North America celebrated the 78th anniversary of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs at the biennial convention in Chicago in July 2007. The Seaboard Region was well represented with over 20 men from 12 clubs. There were wonderful highlights for the Region. Among the highlights was the presentation of the Maasim Tovim award to Danny Stern of Beth Israel Brotherhood in Owing Mills, MD, Past International President of FJMC, for his meritorious and long-standing contributions to Men’s Club, his synagogue and his community.

The Seaboard Region also had three 2007 winners of the FJMC Quality Club Award – Adas Israel of Washington DC, B’nai Israel of Rockville MD, and Beth Israel of Owings Mills MD.

The region also garnered a number of Torch Awards for outstanding programs:

  • Beth Emeth Men’s Club of Herndon, VA, a silver award in the FJMC Programs category for its 2007 Men’s Club World Wide Wrap program, and an honorable mention award in the FJMC Programs category for its 2007 FJMC Yellow Candle Campaign program.
  • Temple Israel Men’s Club of Norfolk, VA, a gold award for in the Non0FJMC Programs category for its Fall Fling Fundraiser.
  • Beth Israel Brotherhood of Owings Mills, MD, a silver award in the FJMC Programs category for its World Wide Wrap 2007 program.
  • B’nai Israel Men’s Club of Rockville, MD, a silver award in the FJMC Programs category for its Sukkah Sales, Delivery, and Installation program.
  • Adas Israel Men’s Club of Washington, DC, a gold award in the Israel/Masorti Olami Programming category for its Books for Israel program, and a gold award in the Youth Programming category for its Daddies and Darlings program.

From the biennial FJMC convention to the biennial regional retreat, from the World Wide Wrap to the Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle program, for club leadership training and Keruv programs, from the Blue Yarmulke Men of the Year program to this Seaboard web page, to the FJMC publication rebate of $250 offered to each club, along with other services and programs, there is much to choose and to benefit from by your active participation in your own club, in the Seaboard Region, and FJMC.

More and better programs, more and better publications, more and better club training, and more and better communications are the hallmarks of the FJMC and its Seaboard Region during the 21st century.
